The Giving Organisation Launch
Tutu behind united force to transform society

Midrand, Thursday, 12 October 2006 – The Social
Welfare sector in South Africa can soon be
revolutionized, thanks to a new initiative
launched today in the presence of the honourable

Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

This radical approach to the charity industry is
coordinated under the banner of The Giving
Organisation, with Archbishop Tutu as its Patron
and PricewaterhouseCoopers as its independent
auditing firm. In addition, twelve of South Africa’s
most reputable and respected charities are the
founding members and owners of The Giving
Organisation.

These organisations decided to unify their
resources, strengths and brand-power to form a
united force to transform society. In addition, due
to the potential magnitude of the projects by The
GivingOrganisation, the founding members
opened their hearts to other worthy causes and
organisations that will also benefit from this
promising concept – indeed an extraordinary
phenomenon in the charity industry!

The Giving Organisation has identified a diverse
range of methods for companies and individuals
to make a difference – tailor-made to the needs
of the particular party.

At the launch event, the honourable Archbishop
quoted Mr. Mandela in saying that “we must…
seize the time to define for ourselves what we
want to make of our shared destiny”.He
continued to say that, acting together in hope and
aspiration, this nation has both the vision and
capacity to realise our ideals.

The vision of The Giving Organisation is to
provide society the opportunity to contribute their
nuisance small change and amounts not
impacting on their lives to good causes. These
small amounts are collected and combined
through innovation and technology and create
miracles, ultimately building a better society
through participation by all.
